The third and final part of The Hunger Games trilogy will get a Potter/Twilight style release, and be split in to two parts. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 will be released in the US on November 23rd 2014, with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2 following on November 20th 2015.
Whatever the creative reasons given for this split, the economics behind this decision are clear; The opening chapter of the franchise is the twelfth biggest movie of all time at the US box office, and this is an easy way for a studio to double its money.
The first sequel, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is released in US theaters on November 22nd 2013.
