finding ten bad sequels

The news that Disney-Pixar is to release a sequel to one of its finest animations, Finding Nemo - is both exciting and alarming.  This is after all the studio that brought us the sublime Toy Story 3, but film history is littered with terrible sequels.  Here are ten of the very worst.

This cool poster is about the only good thing to emerge from the dire mess that was Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace.  From the opening impenetrable scrollings about trade disputes, to Anakin's shout of yippee, to every second that Jar Jar Binks was on screen - this movie spoiled many a childhood memory.

A sequel that actually manages to spoil the original.  Remember how cool it was for George Clooney and his pals to anonymously pull off the casino heist in part one?  Well it turns out they didn't, and Andy Garcia wants his money back in this smug heist movie, with no heist.  This is also the movie where Julia Roberts pretends to be... Julia Roberts - hold on to your sides, they might just burst.

OK, none of the Jaws sequels were that great, but part 2 had a bit of a teen friendly storyline and part 3 was a 3D novelty.   However, Jaws the Revenge has no redeeming features whatsoever.  This is the movie where the shark gets personal, goes after Michael Caine, and takes out a plane...

perhaps the worst sequel?

It's arguable that some of the choreography in this movie, is on occaision, better than the original. That is about the only positive thing you can say about this dire sequel, which has lame plotting, and even lamer songs.

A lazy mash up of the first movie, that loses all of its charm.

The first movie may not have been to everyone's taste, but it had good humor, cool robots and some half decent characterization. For the second movie, Michael Bay turns everything up to one-hundred and eleven, creating a long plotless nightmare of noise and robots hitting each other.

Not just one of the worst sequels ever made, but also one of the worst concepts for a follow up imaginable.  Keanu Reaves wisely turned down this bomb on a boat.

Sadly he didn't pass on the two follow ups to The Matrix.  Everything that made the original movie fresh and exciting, suddenly became very dull.

A cameo from Patrick Swayze is the only possible reason for watching this.
