So you've seen one of the best movies in ages, and the sequel is at least a year away. What to do next? Here are five ways to keep the hunger at bay.
1. Do the Trifecta. Read the book, download the soundtrack and go see the movie (again).
2. Play Super Smash TV. Get up in the attic, dig out the snes and take part in this gory reality show of the future.
3. Check out the actors back catalogue. Our awesome duo, has been awesome before. Here is our pick of their best.

5. Finish the trilogy. Read the other two books, or listen to the rather fine audio versions from Audible.

As anyone who has been lucky enough to make the comparison will tell you, the best Disney parks aren't in America or Europe, they are in Japan. Here is a cool looking commercial, where Disneyland gets an anime makeover.

Disney's John Carter looks set to become the biggest flop in movie history, with a loss of $200m. Whilst many reasons have been put forward for this monumental failure, I can't help thinking that one potential reason may have been overlooked. Yes the marketing may have been poor, the source material unfamiliar and the total lack of stars - suicidal, but could there be another contributory factor for this box office disaster? The fact it was marketed as a Disney movie.
Don't get me wrong, I love Disney - everything from the mouse to the movies, to the parks. But putting a Disney logo on a movie trailer gives a certain expectation - that the movie will be family friendly, and whilst that may delight some, it may also put others off. In particular it may put off the teen males that are needed to make such movies profitable.
Over the years, Disney have clearly recognise this themselves, in 1988 Who Framed Roger Rabbit was released under the Touchstone brand. When Disney distributed Miramax product, they didn't make people aware that they were bringing movies like Pulp Fiction to theatres.
An interesting case is Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. This 2003 feature, was based on a Disneyland ride, but when the studio got spooked by the content of the movie, it was released without studio branding. No fairy-tail castle, no Touchstone logo. When it exceeded expectations and became a monster hit, the Disney branding was restored for the DVD release and the numerous sequels.
There have been other live action hits released under the Disney brand - National Treasure had the benefit of a big star and High School Musical 3 was an established tween brand. But there have also been big flops like the enjoyable Race to Witch Mountain, which interestingly was also Sci-fi themed. Animated feature Mars needs Moms (Sci-fi again!) also bombed big.
Soon Disney will release the Avengers movie, but there is unlikely to be Disney branding anywhere near it, just the logo of the studio they acquired it from; Paramount, and Disney's newly acquired subsidiary, Marvel. The Hunger Games is an awesome movie, indeed not since the final credits rolled on the first Lord of the Rings movie, have I left a movie theatre so desperate to see the sequel. This is not your standard blockbuster, it has things intelligent to say, quality acting and a great cast. It also has the feel of an indie movie - less glossy than Twilight, more adult than Potter.
The story is set in a dystopian North America, some years in the future. As a result of a peace accord, two teens in each district are selected to take part in the "hunger games": A grim reality television show in which the twenty-four participants head to the capitol and then fight to the death, until just one is left standing. A sort of bastardised offspring of The Apprentice and Lord of the Flies.
There are many similarities to previous movies; within the games there are echoes of The Running Man; the playing god aspects of TV were handled in a similarly excellent way in The Truman Show, and there is more than a little hint of Romeo + Juliet within the central characters. The vision of the future felt a little like A:I.
Another movie I was reminded of was Never Let Me Go. There were similar issues of how man can turn its back on humanity, and descend into horrendous immorality.
It was genius not to show any of actual games footage in the publicity before the movies release. When the games start, it hits you like a train. The grimness of kid attacking kid is as brutal as anything I have seen on screen in a long time. The cast is uniformly excellent. The central pairing of Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are engaging, and with Liam Hemsworth on the sidelines, there are definite hints of a future love triangle. Amongst the less sympathetic teens, Alexander Ludwig deserves a mention for his great performance.
the voice uk starts big
A impressive peak of 9.82m viewers saw the debut of BBC One's new singing talent show, The Voice UK. It averaged 8.42m viewers throughout its time slot from 7 to 8.20pm. ITV's established hit Britain's Got Talent started at 8pm and predictably got a higher audience with an 11.5m peak and a 9.43m average (567k average on ITV+1). Interestingly for the time that they clashed, the voice had 8.9m and BGT had 6.71, So ITV would have been much wiser to have started later.
As for the show itself, The Voice UK was certainly the best looking new entertainment format on BBC One in some years. A world away from the cheap looking So You Think You Can Dance, the production values had more in common with the last couple of series of Strictly Come Dancing - which shouldn't come as a surprise, because they used the same producer.
The well publicised format twist is that the auditions are done blind, with the four coaches sitting in funky chairs, with their backs to the singer. If they like what they hear, they push a button and spin round to see the performer. If only one coach pushes their button, then the singer joins their team. If more than one coach turns round, then the singer gets to choose which team to join. This is the most interesting part of the format, kinda like Dragons Den, the coaches have to use their best skills of persuasion on the singers.
The coaches are a pretty impressive bunch. The stratagy of Tom Jones and will.i.am seemed to be to drop as many famous names as the time would allow, hoping that they would mention someone the singer would like. In contrast Jessie J and Danny O'Donoghue (the dude from the Script) attempted to show how similar the were to each singer.
The talent on the show was pretty good. There were deliberately no terrible acts. The nearest thing to a stunt was ex member of 5ive, Sean Conlon auditioning - he didn't get through. Ones to watch are Max Milner and J Marie Cooper.
Though the show was a bit schmaltzy at times, overall it was a positive and enjoyable experience. If it can maintain or grow its audience (and the good word of mouth suggests it might), then the BBC may finally have a big entertainment hit on its hands.

In my recent trawl through the current list of BBC sports, I didn't include horse racing. This oversight is a little unfortunate, because it looks like the corporation is likely to lose all its remaining racing events to Channel 4.
The BBC had previously cut its racing coverage down to just thirteen days a year, comprised of Royal Ascot, the Derby and the Grand National. To pick up these events, Channel 4 is understood to have bid double what the BBC paid last time.
At first glance this may look like another blow to BBC sport, but the real loser here may be racing itself. It will be moving to a minority channel, and once they stop covering racing, it is unlikely that the BBC will ever bid for the rights again. Just look at the lack of BBC bids for the recent tenders of the FA cup and cricket, for evidence of that.
itv blinks first
ITV has finally scheduled the opening show of the new run of Britain's Got Talent for 8pm on Saturday March 24th. It means there will be a small twenty minute overlap with BBC one's The Voice which will start at 7pm. ITV had initially chosen to put its Simon Cowell talent vehicle at 7-45pm causing the BBC to move The Voice from 7-15pm to 7pm. Last night ITV moved BGT even earlier to 7-30pm, hoping the BBC would move its show even earlier; they didn't, so ITV had to perform a bit of a climbdown today.

the problem with 12a
The 12a certificate was launched by the BBFC on August 30th 2002. It allowed parents to take their under twelves, to movies that they would previously have been barred from. By replacing the 12 rating with 12a, the BBFC managed to defuse a growing problem where parents would complain that they couldn't take their kids to see the latest blockbuster, (in 2002 it was Sam Raimi's Spider-man), There would then be a bit of a media campaign, which would cause local authorities (the ultimate regulator of cinemas), to lower the certificate. In one area the movie would be a PG, in another area it would be a 12. The introduction of 12a managed to put a stop to all this. It also allowed the BBFC to rate the final five Harry Potter movies at 12a, without any criticism. Everyone was happy.
Flash forward to 2012 and a little problem is emerging with the 12a and it started to become apparent with the release of The Woman in Black. This is the first Daniel Radcliffe movie that has been released since the Harry Potter saga ended. It was submitted to the BBFC and received a 15 certificate, the distributor wanted a 12a and so allowed six seconds of cuts to; reduce moments of strong violence / horror and in addition to the 6 seconds of visual cuts, substitutions were also made by darkening some shots and by reducing the sound levels on others (BBFC.com). Why did they want the lower classification? Because a 12a has a far wider audience and a large part of Dan's audience will be twelve or under. The trick worked and The Woman in Black became the most successful British horror movie ever.
Example two is The Hunger Games, as BBFC.com explains:
This work was originally seen for advice in an unfinished form. The company was advised that the film was likely to receive a '15' certificate but that their preferred '12A' classification could be achieved by making a number of cuts and visual reductions. When the finished version of the film was submitted for formal classification, cuts had been made in four scenes of violence and in one scene showing details of injuries. These reductions were implemented by a mixture of visual cuts, visual darkenings and the digital removal of sight of blood. In addition to the reductions already made during the 'advice' process, the Board required further reductions in one scene following formal submission of the finished feature....The company chose to make cuts in order to achieve a '12A' classification. A number of cuts were made in one scene to reduce an emphasis on blood and injury. These cuts, which were implemented by digitally removing sight of blood splashes and sight of blood on wounds and weapons, were made in accordance with BBFC Guidelines and policy. An uncut '15' classification was available.
There seem to be a couple of problems here, firstly the BBFC have made a lot of effort over the past few decades to evolve from a being a censor, to a classifier. Cutting movies seems to be closer to the former, than the latter. The second problem is that these movies are only being cut to make more money. The 12a doesn't simply bring kids that are 12, 13 and 14 into the cinemas; it also brings families with 7, 8 and 9 year olds. It adds a huge audience for a movie, and the chances of seeing the movie as the director intended are sadly reduced.
