River Phoenix is set to return to the big screen this fall, some nineteen years after his sad death. On Halloween night 1993, he died of a heart attack (believed drug induced) - on the sidewalk, outside The Viper Room, West Hollywood.
At this time, the 23 year-old actor had been working on Dark Blood, a movie from Dutch director George Sluizer. Production ceased following River's death, but George kept hold of the film stock. In 2011 the director got funding to produce a final cut of the movie, which will be shown at the Netherlands Film Festival, in September.
