The latest season of
The Apprentice has got off to a bit of low key start. Overshadowed by
BGT and
The Voice UK, the series returned two weeks ago, with no tweaks to its format (girls team, boys team, etc) and a bit of a run of the mill task. Our candidates had to buy some stock (tee shirts, teddies, etc), add some value and then sell it to an unwilling public. The boys team struck gold by flogging tat to tourists. The girls team tragically misunderstood the market and tried to produce products of quality, they naturally lost rather heavily. One has to admire Lord Sugar for rarely keeping candidates for comedy value alone, he fired
Bilyana Apostolova for the three sins of actually trying to sell product, getting lost in London and for not knowing when to shut up. Initial impressions are that the girls team is rife with infighting and the boys are getting pretty well.

Onwards to episode two and Azhar Siddique give us one of the quotes of the season so far, when he declares himself to be the "killer whale of the sea world", is there any other type? In this weeks task, our teams had to invent a product for the bathroom or kitchen, and then sell it to a high street chain or Amazon. Again the boys who invented a bin, cruised to a fairly easy win. They were helped by the fact the girls ignored their market research and came product was a pretty shoddy concept (splash guard for kids bath time), which no one liked. Maria O'Connor got fired, her major sin was wearing eye shadow about 25 years past its sell by date,
