100 years of Universal
Universal is celebrating its 100th birthday with a shiny new logo, some special edition blu rays, and a significant increase in the budget for its theatrical releases. Here are this years notable titles:
The Lorax. After the mega success of Universal's Despicable me ($543m globally), and the good performance of Hop ($183m globally), expectations for this $70m Dr. Suess animation are high. It opens in the US March 2nd.
American Reunion. After countless straight to video sequels, finally the fourth theatrical American Pie movie gets released April 6th.
The Five Year Engagement. A rom com. Universal will be hoping for more of a success like Bridesmaids ($288m) and trying to forget the failure of last weeks release, Wanderlust. Released April 27th.
Battleship. Universal's big $211m gamble. Can it be the next Transformers? Find out May 18th.
Snow White & the Huntsman. The recent Hollywood appetite for reduxed fairy tales continues with this $175m movie. Opens June 1st.
The Bourne Legacy. No Damon or Greengrass for this latest chapter in the Bourne series, but it does have Jeremy Renner from Hurt Locker, so it could be great. Spy it on August 3rd.
