WTF? seems to be the widespread response to the news that the popular BBC drama series Waterloo Road is to move its production from Rochdale to Scotland. A "dramatic and explosive" storyline will bring about the end of the Manchester based school, then some of the current teachers and pupils will set up an independent school in Scotland. This must be the beginning of the end.
In honor of this crazy idea, I present a few other small screen shows that moved:
The Apprentice USA Season six.
As part of an attempt to freshen up season six of Donald Trumps reality business show, they relocated it from New York to Los Angeles. Unfortunately the move coincided with several changes to the shows format which were critically panned.
The show received its lowest ratings to date. It was moved back to its native New York for the following seasons run of The Celebrity Apprentice.
The Simpsons. Season nine, episode 22.
In Trash of the Titans, Homer becomes the Sanitation Commissioner for Springfield. His tenure ultimately ends in disaster with the town overrun by trash. Mayor Quimby moves the town five miles down the road.
Whilst this was by no means a shark jumping episode, the Simpsons best years were already behind it.
A successful BBC school drama - that moved north! This must have been so successful that the BBC have decided to do it all over again.
Based in London from 1978 to 2003, Grange Hill then moved to Liverpool until it was cancelled in 2008. Though the change of location was somewhat odd, the shows ultimate decline was probably caused by the decision of the BBC kids department to focus on under twelves. Meaning that the tough story-lines of early Grange Hill were abandoned.
